Basel II and Bertrand Competition among Banks

The Ph.D. project aims to analyse the impact of the current banking regulation within the context of a strategic choice of capacities changing Bertrand competition mechanisms into a de facto Cournot competition. The thesis will study the effects of the bank s shareholder decision on a binding and observable future level of bank s equity on the bank s ability to generate shareholder value. Moreover, the project will analyse if and how these changes in market structure could influence the bank s decision on portfolio risk.
